The Need for Stabilisation
Thermostability is a critical attribute for all vaccines and biopharmaceuticals including both approved products and those in development. One of the major obstacles to more effective and widespread vaccine use is dependency on the cold chain. The same is true for many biopharmaceuticals. From fill and finish of the vaccine or biopharmaceutical preparation, through to the logistics of global distribution and final administration in humans, almost all vaccines and biopharmaceuticals must be maintained within a cold chain to avoid either significant or complete loss of function.
Stabilitech has generated exciting data showing successful stabilisation, in the dry state, of a variety of thermally sensitive viral vaccines and also biopharmaceuticals, surviving heat challenge at temperatures of 37˚C and above for extended periods. Our technology can give protection against both heat and freeze damage, as demonstrated by temperature cycling from -20°C to +37°C, which mimics the temperature fluctuations that often occur during transport and distribution of vaccines and biopharmaceuticals.
