Biopharmaceuticals and Other Biological Products
An increasing proportion of drugs that are now obtaining regulatory approval are biological molecules. Due to poor thermostability, almost all of these currently require storing in some form of cold chain. There exists, therefore, a significant opportunity to stabilise these new products, to protect their efficacy, reduce costs and increase ease of use.
- A particular need exists for those products that may be self-administered by patients and are therefore stored in unmonitored home refrigerators.
- Diagnostics would also benefit from this stabilisation approach since the protein reagents which form a vital part of diagnostic kits often need to be refrigerated.
- Some biological molecules have until now been too unstable for commercialisation, or for widespread use. Stabilitech’s technology may enable such new drugs to reach patients.
This pressing need for thermo-stable vaccines and biopharmaceuticals has led to Stabilitech’s development of a proprietary, robust, widely applicable, freeze-drying, excipient-based technology.
