Stabilitech enables the thermal protection of alum adjuvanted vaccines

Aluminium hydroxide adjuvant (e.g. Alhydrogel™) is easily damaged by inadvertent freezing, which results in the agglomeration of the adjuvant thereby rendering the vaccine useless. Freezing causes the aluminium component of the vaccine to precipitate and devastates the vaccine’s potency. This is a common problem in ‘cold chain transport’ in developed countries where temperature excursions caused by high temperatures during storage or the exposure of adsorbed vaccine to freezing during transport leads to waste and higher cost than might otherwise be the case.

Stabilitech’s alum freeze protection technology prevents this damage from occurring which means that adjuvanted vaccines can be stored frozen. Unique to Stabilitech’s Therm-SB, the stability conferred upon the adjuvant also enables alum adjuvanted vaccines to be lyophilized – with the surprising finding – that upon reconstitution the gel reforms immediately and the vaccine is ready for injection with no loss of structure of function.
